Children's Highlights
There are numerous opportunities for children to interact with Turkey's fascinating his-
tory. Older children and teenagers will enjoy major sights such as Ephesus (Efes), while
ruins including İstanbul's Hippodrome offer space for toddlers to expend energy.
Cappadocia's fantastical landscape of fairy chimneys (rock formations) and under-
ground cities will thrill older children, as will cave accommodation. This is a safe, relax-
ing rural area with activities including horse riding and hot-air ballooning, and teenagers
will enjoy walking here and in other scenic areas such as the Kaçkar Mountains.
The western Mediterranean has beaches and activities including water sports, tandem
paragliding, boat trips and sea kayaking over submerged ruins. For younger children, holi-
day towns such as Kaş offer picturesque lanes and sandy beaches. The Aegean region has
more beaches, and ruins for older children. Holiday spots including Kuşadası and the
Bodrum Peninsula offer sights, facilities, water sports and glorious coastline. Bozcaada is-
land offers safe swimming and good cycling.
Sweet treats include baklava,
dondurma
(ice cream) and
lokum
(Turkish delight). If
teenagers are inspired, cooking courses are available in İstanbul and elsewhere.
