Mardin
Visit this magical southeastern outpost ( Click here ) before the Turkish government (which
plans to elevate Mardin to the same status as Ephesus) achieves its goal of attracting five
million annual visitors here. Overlooking the Mesopotamian plains, stone houses cascade
down the hillside, and donkeys remain a main form of transport in the bazaar. An ancient
melting pot of Kurdish, Yezidi, Christian and Syrian cultures, there's simply nowhere else
like Mardin.
