Dangers & Annoyances
Like any big city, İzmir has its fair share of crime. However, the main tourist routes are
fairly safe, with the notable exceptions of the Kadifekale neighbourhood and the area
around Basmane train station, which is something of a red-light district - lone women
should take special care. Do not enter Kemeraltı Bazaar after dark, and be alert to pick-
pockets and thieves there during the day.
