In the case of the Os-Cu bimetallic complex 19, mechanistic studies, in-
cluding kinetic and labeling studies, were conducted on the oxidation of
benzyl alcohol (4) to benzaldehyde (5) (Scheme 7.10). 20 The first step in-
volved the coordination of alcohol 4 to osmium complex 19, followed by
proton transfer from the coordinated alcohol to the bridging oxo group.
A concerted b-hydrogen elimination oxidized the alkoxide intermediate to
