( 05 6463 3549; www.fortezzahotel.it ; Piazza Cairoli 5; d €75-140, ste €115-160; ) Fancy the idea
of sleeping in a medieval castle? If so, this comfortable hotel inside one of the fortress'
bastions is just what you're looking for. Many of its 16 rooms have spectacular views, but
the best is undoubtedly the massive 'La Torre' (Tower) suite.
Drinking
Cantina L'Ottava Rima
( www.cantinaottavarima.com ; Via del Borgo 25; noon-3pm & 6pm-midnight summer, 6pm-midnight
Thu & noon-3pm & 6pm-midnight Fri-Sun winter) Carved out of the tufa, this casual cantina
(wine bar) on a terraced walkway is a great place to sample local wines, mico brewed
beers and simple dishes (antipasto plates €12) that highlight quality Maremmese produce.
It's the best of a lacklustre range of cafes/eateries in the town.
