TERME DI SATURNIA
The sulphurous thermal baths at Terme di Saturnia ( 05 6460 0111; www.termedisaturnia.it ; day
admission €44, after 3pm €39; 9.30am-7.30pm summer, to 5.30pm winter) are 2.5km downhill
from the village of the same name, which is 35km from Sorano and 26km from Pitigliano. You can
happily do as the Romans did and spend a whole day dunking yourself in the hot pools and indulging
in spa treatments at this luxury resort, or you can take the econo-bather option and avail yourself of
the waters running parallel to the road for several hundred metres, starting just south of the Terme di
Saturnia turn-off. Look for the telltale sign of other bathers' cars parked on the road, then forage down
the dirt path until you find a suitable spot of gratis cascading water, with temperatures at a constant
37.5°C. Another alternative is to overnight in the Hotel Saturno Fontepura (
05 6460 1313;
www.hotelsaturnofontepura.com ; r €130-180;
), a spa resort with its own thermal pool.
It's on the highway overlooking the terme (thermal baths).
