CENTRAL SICILY
Enna
Accommodation is in short supply in Enna, but there are plenty of hotels and
agriturismi
around Lago di Pergusa, 9km south of town.

This splendid
agriturismo
is housed in a 17th-century convent near the Lago di Per-
gusa. The monks' cells have long since been converted into comfortable guest rooms, but
the thick stone walls, vaulted ceilings and fading frescoes leave a historical imprint.
There's also a dedicated camping area and an in-house restaurant (meals from €25).

Up in the
historic centre, Enna's best hotel hides its lights behind a crude concrete facade. Once in-
side, you'll find a panoramic breakfast terrace and cheery, comfortable rooms with kitsch
gold-framed Botticelli prints and wrought-iron bedsteads.

Near the entrance to Nicosia (on the SS117 to Agira), this is an
agriturismo
in the true
sense of the word, a working farm with 10 comfortable, rustic-style rooms and a restaurant
specialising in earthy country food. You can go horse-riding (one hour/half-day €18/50),
organise an excursion or simply relax by the pool.
