dusky pink Aeolian inn houses the island's classiest restaurant, with the same owner and
staff since 1984. It's a fashionable port of call for the August aperitif set, with a lively bar
and rustic-chic decor. The three daily offerings are all built around fresh-caught local sea-
food: a seafood antipasto, a fish-with-pasta dish, and a grilled fish special with vegetables.
There's also an excellent list of Sicilian wines.

( 090 98 60 25; Via Marina; meals from €35; June-mid-Sep) Break bread with Dolce and Gabbana
and the president of Italy at this chic restaurant-bar, a long-standing favourite of Strom-
boli's beautiful people. Lunch is a casual buffet on the seafront terrace, while the evening
scene is more refined, with aperitifs and cocktails at the piano bar and diners romancing
over candlelit tables.
Regulars also flock here to read the morning paper over coffee at breakfast time or in-
dulge in La Tartana's trademark dessert, coppa Stromboli , a volcano-shaped mass of
chocolate, sweet cream and hazelnut ice cream studded with candied cherries and doused
in a lava flow of strawberry syrup.
