The ever-expanding contemporary art collection of the restlessly dynamic MACBA starts
in the Gothic chapel of the Convent dels Àngels and continues into the main gleaming-
white building across the square. It's a stage for the best of Catalan, Spanish and interna-
tional contemporary art. Artists frequently on show include Antoni Tàpies, Miquel Barceló
and a host of very-now installation artists. The ultramodern white building, designed by
North American architect Richard Meier, was one of a series of art and cultural institutions
that helped revitalise El Raval.
