In-Depth Information
Bob's Cometa Copal CABINA
( 2676-1192; www.kiteincostarica.com ; cabinas US$40-60; )
A seasonal operation with clean, colorful little faux-dobe cabinas at the top of a hill with
gorgeous views of the bay. Cabinas are quite sweet, with Spanish tiles, vaulted beamed
ceilings and kitchenettes. Walk to the beach when you're ready to ride. And when you're
done, walk back, lounge around the pool or grab a bite at the excellent restaurant.
Bolaños Bay Resort HOTEL
( 2676-1163; www.hotel-bolanos.com ; d incl breakfast US$80; )
Walk through the overly dramatic palapa (shelter with a thatched, palm-leaf roof and open
sides) entryway and through the deserted restaurant, and feast your eyes on the seaside
pool and the epic bay views beyond. That's what you came for. The rooms are cheery -
with polished-concrete floors and whitewashed wood furnishings - but nothing special.
Overall, it's a decent option if you can get past the atmosphere of abandonment.
Ecoplaya Beach Resort HOTEL
( 2676-1010; www.ecoplaya.com ; s/d US$80/90, villas from US$130; )
First things first: there's nothing particularly 'eco' about this place, and the playa is thin
and gray. But this chilled-out resort has a few things going for it. The huge rooms have
sustainable teak furnishings and cool design elements like soaring slanted ceilings and epic
views from the 2nd floor. Most importantly, it's a hop and a skip away from gorgeous
Playa Jobó.
Plaza Copal SODA
( 8994-5292; meals US$6-10; 8am-10pm)
There's a fantastic vibe at this outdoor soda , located on the road down to Copal. Hungry
kitesurfers congregate here to get their fill before and after riding the waves. They can
vouch for the home-cooked meals, which are filling and downright delectable. Service is
slow, but it's worth the wait for amazing coconut curry, grass-fed beef steaks and fresh
fish.
