MUSEUM, TOURIST OFFICE
Mill on the Fleet Information Centre
( www.millonthefleet.co.uk ; High St; admission free; 10am-5pm Apr-Oct) In the centre
of town, in a converted 18th-century cotton mill, this centre has an exhibition on the his-
tory of the local industry and environment. The town was originally planned for the pur-
pose of millworkers' accommodation. There's also tourist information, a cafe, a gallery
and a likeably chaotic secondhand bookshop here.
Cardoness Castle

Sep, to 4.30pm Sat & Sun Nov-Mar) One mile southwest on the A75, this well-preserved
stronghold was the home of the McCulloch clan. It's a classic 15th-century tower house
with great views from the top.
