This bush retreat (32km south of Mackay) is a down'n'dirty option in the best possible
way. Stay in an endearingly ramshackle cottage, the rustic livery stable or the charismatic
Dead Horse Hostel, and forget all about the mod-cons for a while: this is deadset bush liv-
in'. Three-hour horse rides cost $95 per person. The owners will pick you up if you ring
ahead (minimum of two people). Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOFs) wel-
come.
