Rockhampton City Art Gallery

impressive collection of Australian paintings, this gallery includes works by Sir Russell
Drysdale, Sir Sidney Nolan and Albert Namatjira. Contemporary Indigenous artist Judy
Watson also has a number of works on display.

Dreamtime Cultural Centre

tours 10.30am) An easily accessible insight into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage
and history. The excellent 90-minute tours are hands on (throw your own boomerangs!)
and appeal to all ages. About 7km north of the centre.
CULTURAL CENTRE
Heritage Village
( 07-4936 8680; Bruce Hwy; adult/child/family $10.50/6.80/30.50; 9am-4pm) An active museum of
replica historic buildings with townsfolk at work in period garb. There's also a visitor
centre here. It's 10km north of the city centre.
MUSEUM
Kershaw Gardens
( 07-4936 8254; via Charles St; 6am-6pm) Just north of the Fitzroy River, this excel-
lent botanical park is devoted to Australian native plants. Its attractions include artificial
rapids, a rainforest area, a fragrant garden and heritage architecture.

MUSEUM
Archer Park Rail Museum
( 07-4922 2774; www.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au ; Denison St; adult/child/family $8/5/26; 9am-4pm Sun-
Fri) This museum is housed in a former train station built in 1899. Through photographs
and displays it tells the station's story, and that of the unique Purrey steam tram. Take a
ride on the restored tram (the only remaining one of its kind in the world!) every Sunday
from 10am to 1pm.
Mt Archer
This mountain (604m) has walking trails weaving through eucalypts and rainforest abund-
ant in wildlife. A brochure to the park is available from the visitor centres.
