Stanthorpe Heritage Museum

seum, on the town's northern outskirts, gives a comprehensive insight into Stanthorpe's
tin-mining and grazing past. Well-preserved old buildings from the 1800s include a slab-
timber jail, a shepherd's hut and a school house. There's a moving display on Stanthorpe's
wartime losses, and home-made 'make-do' pieces - toys, kitchen items, pillow cases, cur-
tains - showing local ingenuity during lean times.

Suttons Juice Factory

your own apples at Suttons (stock up for your road trip), or skip the hard work and sample
their excellent apple cider, brandy, juices and syrups. The Shed Café here serves light
lunches.

Granite Belt Maze

9.30am-4.30pm Fri-Mon, daily during school holidays) The timber-slatted Granite Belt Maze, 8.5km
north of town, is as kitschy as a maze can be, but the kids will love it.

WHEN TO GO
If you plan on checking out a few vineyards around Stanthorpe and Ballandean, it's probably best to visit on a
weekend. Accommodation prices are slightly higher from Friday to Sunday, but you'll have access to all the vine-
yards and restaurants, many of which close their doors during the working week.
