In-Depth Information
( www.breakfastcreekhotel.com ; 2 Kingsford Smith Dr, Albion; 10am-late) This historic 1889 pub is a
Brisbane classic. Built in lavish French Renaissance style, it has various bars and dining
areas (including a beer garden and an art-deco 'private bar' where you can drink beer
tapped from a wooden keg). The stylish Substation No 41 bar serves cocktails and le-
gendary steaks.

Tue-Sat) Brisbane's old police barracks have been converted into a complex of quality bars
and eateries, the pick of which is cool Cabiria. It's a skinny, dimly lit, moody room with
big mirrors and shimmering racks of booze (35 different tequilas). Awesome New
York-style sandwiches, too.
Normanby Hotel

( www.thenormanby.com.au ; 1 Musgrave Rd; 10am-3pm) A handsome 1889 redbrick pub on the end
of Petrie Tce, with a beer garden under a vast fig tree. Goes nuts during 'Sunday Sessions'
(boozy wakes for the weekend).

Caxton Hotel

( www.caxton.com.au ; 38 Caxton St, Petrie Tce; 11am-late) The Caxton St strip off Petrie Tce used to
be hip, but it's become a trashy collection of hyped-up bars and cheap kebab joints. But if
you're dying for a beer, the old yellow Caxton Hotel remains a reasonably grounded op-
tion, with mainstream music and non-stop rugby on the big screens.
