Watch red-hot home decor emerge from the fiery fornaci of Murano, hidden behind
the showrooms along Fondamenta Vetrai and Ramo di Mula . Showroom staff let you
handle pieces if you ask first, but wield parcels and handbags with care - what you
break, you buy. On sunny Burano days, you might glimpse local ladies tatting lace on
brightly painted front stoops. The island's main drag, Via Galuppi , is lined with lace
shops. Look for ' fatto a Burano' (made in Burano) and 'Vero Artistico Murano'
guarantees, since much of the less expensive stock is imported.

lesque dancers inspire curvy, red-hot wineglasses, crystal icebergs become champagne
flutes and lagoon waters seem to swirl inside free-form, two-tone green and blue vases.
Nason Moretti have been making modernist magic happen in glass since the 1950s, and the
third-generation glass designers are in rare form in this showroom. Prices start at €30 for
signed, hand-blown drinking glasses.

Davide Penso has taken the art of bead making to dizzying heights with exhibits at the
Museo Correr, Boston's Fine Arts Museum and the San Marco Museum of Japan. Made us-
ing the lampworking process, each bead is individually painted in strikingly modern styles.
The collar of gold lozenges looks satisfyingly like the real thing.
