In-Depth Information
Of the big houses - Seguso, Salviati, Barovier & Toso and C.A.M - Venini remains the
most relevant, having embraced modernist trends since the 1930s.
Its enviable range is bolstered by collaborations with design greats such as Carlo
Scarpa, Gae Aulenti, Emmanuel Babled and, most recently, Fabio Novembre, whose
'Happy Pills' hit the shelves in 2012.
MARINA E SUSANNA SENT STUDIO

( 041 527 46 65; www.marinaesusannaset.com ; Fondamenta Serenella 20; Sep-Jul; Colonna) At last
the Sent sisters have opened their workshop in Murano, causing countless holiday hours
lost in indecision. The two-storey space is as sleek as their jewellery: exposed-concrete
walls, a double-height ceiling and white light streaming through the windows and setting
signature pieces ablaze. The collection is displayed in colour groups and neatly stashed in
drawers - don't be too shy to ask for assistance; there's a lot to see.
Two other shops, with a more highly curated selection, can be found in Dorsoduro (

LUIGI CAMOZZO
MAP GOOGLE MAP
( 041 37 68 75; www.luigicamozzo.com ; Fondamenta Venier 3; Museo) If you're lucky you'll find
master glass engraver Luigi Camozzo sat at one of his diamond-point wheels etching
painstakingly detailed scenes into all manner of glass objects. Some are embedded with
richly coloured enamels and gold, while other cold-worked battuto (literally 'beaten')
vases in browns, reds and gold look like basketry or wood sculpture.
Apprentice Amy West, who hails from Kansas, also exhibits her work in the gallery, in-
cluding super mod rings that sit like shiny, dark beetles on long slender fingers.

CAMPAGNOL & SALVADORE

( 041 73 67 72; Fondamenta Vetrai 128a; 10.30am-6pm Mon-Sat; Colonna) The Japanese-Murano
couple behind Campagnol & Salvadore specialise in light-hearted creations: their aqua
and sunshine-yellow bead necklaces look like strands of tiny beach balls. Psychedelic col-
our schemes make these baubles runway-ready, and aspiring designers are encouraged to
create their own looks from individual blown-glass beads (€3 to €15 per bead).
