Tette, this culinary indulgence is a trick to find. The sign proudly announcing 'no tourist
menu' signals a welcome change: say goodbye to soggy lasagne and hello to silky,
lagoon-fresh crudi , asparagus and granseola (lagoon crab) salad, cloudlike gnocchi, and
San Pietro (whitefish) atop grilled radicchio trevisano .

7-10.30pm Mon-Sat; ; San Stae) Vegetable-centric, seasonal small plates bring Venetian
spice-trade influences to local produce: zucchini with ginger zing, cinnamon-tinged
pumpkin flan, and raspberry spice cake. Herbed roast lamb is respectable here too, but the
island-grown produce is the breakout star. The snug wood-panelled interior gets toasty, so
reserve canalside seats in summer.

7-11pm Mon-Sat; ; San Tomà) Dapper white-jacketed waiters serve pristine grilled lagoon
fish, fresh pasta and desserts made in-house ('of course') with a proud flourish, on tables
bedecked with yellow linens and orchids. On cloudy days, homemade crab pasta with a
bright Lugana white wine make a fine substitute for sunshine. On sunny days and warm
nights, the neighbourhood converges beneath the garden's grape arbour.

urgent action alerts: 'No abandoning animals!', 'More rights for gays and domestic part-
ners!' Prices are left of centre, radical-chic servers graciously indulge petty-bourgeois
pizza orders, and on sunny days, all of Venice converges on the garden for frittura mista
(seafood fry), the bargain house prosecco, and cross-partisan bonding.
