Food Lovers' Tour of Emilia-Romagna
To many gourmands, Emilia-Romagna is Italy's gastronomic queen - no mean feat in a country famed
for culinary prowess.
Start your taste test with two days in Parma , home to Italy's finest cured ham (prosciutto di Parma)
and its most revered cheese (parmigiano reggiano) . Stock up on these, as well as local Lambrusco
wines, at Salumeria Garibaldi, and savour classics like tortelli di zucca (pumpkin-stuffed pasta) and
cappelletti in brodo (pasta stuffed with ground meats and parmigiano cheese in a beef broth) at foodie
favourite Trattoria del Tribunale. If you're a culinary daredevil, look out for pesto di cavallo (raw
minced horse meat with herbs and parmesan), one of Parma's more unusual specialities. For a cultural
take on the world's most grated dairy product, side trip it to the Museo del Parmigiano Reggiano in
Soragna , 30km northwest of Parma.
Your next stop is culinary hot spot Modena . Stock up on the town's world-famous aged aceto bal-
samico (balsamic vinegar) at Enoteca Ducale, or delve deeper on a Modenatur guided visit to local pro-
ducers. Alternatively, visit the Museo del Balsamico Tradizionale in the town of Spilamberto , 17km
