In-Depth Information
Heading towards Chur, the stretch of tracks that climbs up and through the Oberalp Pass
(2033m) is the literal high point of the Glacier Express journey. Expect everybody in the
cars to be snapping pics like mad. From here it meanders alongside the Vorderrhein River,
through Disentis/Mustér to Chur , where the train splits for its dual end points (St Moritz
and Davos). Chur has a charmer of an old town - Switzerland's oldest - and is a good
overnight stop to wander around, have a fine meal and possibly go for an Alpine meadow
hike the next day.
St Moritz ( Click here ) or Davos ( Click here )
The glamour of Switzerland's original ski resort is a suitable finish for such a famous
journey. In winter you can join the famous on the St Moritz powder. In summer you can
hike the surrounding Alps. The alternative end point for the Glacier Express, Davos is a
modern and vibrant resort town.
ZERMATT ST MORITZ/DAVOS
In one go, the Glacier Express takes 7½ hours from Zermatt to St Moritz or Davos (the train splits), but you can do it
in little nibbles and easily take five days by overnighting at some of the great little towns on the way.
