Travel Passes
Passes are an excellent means of getting around Switzerland. Most offer some combina-
tion of free and discounted travel on trains, boats, cable cars and/or postal buses.
Find comprehensive information on the many passes at ht-
tp://traintickets.myswitzerland.com .
European Rail Passes
Eurail and Inter Rail passes are valid on Swiss national railways. However, you cannot
use them on postal buses, city transport, many cable cars and some private train lines
(Eurail does offer a 25% discount on the Zermatt route and the Jungfraubahn routes at the
heart of the Bernese Oberland).
Swiss Travel Passes
The following national travel passes generally offer better savings than Eurail or Inter Rail
passes on extensive travel within Switzerland.
Passes can be purchased in the UK from the Switzerland Travel Centre ( www.stc.co.uk )
. In the US, Rail Europe ( www.raileurope.com ) sells the range of passes. In Switzerland, lar-
ger train stations sell passes, including the one in the basement at Zürich's airport.
