Itineraries
Spend days exploring the many pleasures - visual and
edible - in Ticino, Switzerland's Italian side. Then enjoy
the contrasts of Graubünden, where the raw beauty of
nature is punctuated by posh world-famous resorts.
BELLINZONA TO LOCARNO Ticino
If the French accent of Valais comes as a surprise for many who think of Switzerland in
purely Germanic terms, the Italian accent and flavour of Ticino will come as a very lovely
surprise. Start in (1) Bellinzona , which lies at a confluence of lakes and is dominated by
fortresses that date back to Roman times. Head up the suitably named Castelgrande
(Grand Castle!) and survey your domain. Next up is Castello di Montebello , which ticks
off every necessary castle feature right down to the drawbridge. Finally hike up to the most
formidable castle: Castello di Sasso Corbaro .
