In-Depth Information
Next up is (2) Lugano . Beautifully set on its namesake lake, its sinuous streets are
ideal for wandering, lined with shops and restaurants, and punctuated by the odd little
square with cafes. Stop and get drawn into the richly detailed frescoes at Chiesa di Santa
Maria degli Angioli , then board a boat for a trip on the water. When the spirit moves
you, pause for some delicious local fare.
Finally, don't even bother counting the palm trees in (3) Locarno - it's just about the
sunniest Swiss destination and the perfect place to put your motor in neutral.
CHUR TO ST MORITZ Graubünden
Viewing Alps all around you is reason enough to visit (1) Chur . The evocative Old Town
and great restaurants are just a bonus. Given you're on holiday, you should try to be as re-
laxed as possible, and an afternoon spent letting your cares bubble away at the spa at (2)
Bad Ragaz will be well worth it. Whether it's winter or summer, you'll find plenty to
keep tension from returning at (3) Klosters : the skiing and hiking here and at nearby (4)
Davos are legendary. While Davos is renowned for its high-profile World Economic For-
um, Klosters retains a rural Swiss mountain-chalet flavour with an overlay of posh.
Leave the luxe behind and head over the Flüela Pass (one of many spectacular moun-
tain passes in the region) to little (5) Zernez . This tidy rural village is the gateway to the
(6) Swiss National Park , where you can get close to raw Alpine nature in this beautiful
but manicured country.
Once you've had your fill of marmots, you can shift gears and make the short jaunt to
the most fabled Swiss resort of them all: (7) St Moritz . The myriad pleasures range from
the natural to the sybaritic. Enjoy!
