In-Depth Information
If you want to understand how Switzerland was founded, walk and hike segments of
the 35km scenic Swiss Path , built to celebrate Switzerland's 700-Year Anniversary in
1991. It circles Lake Uri and begins at the Rütli, the meadow in the town of Seelisberg
where Switzerland was born. It's 35km east of Lucerne. Take the Tell bus from the Lu-
cerne train station to Altdorf (runs Mondays to Saturdays) and a local bus to the Swiss
trailhead.
5 E-BIKE TO KUESNACHT
Hop on a Swiss-built Flyer electric bike (ask at the tourist office) and ride from Lu-
cerne through villages and farms on signposted paths. It's spectacular and easy. (And
you can do this by regular bike too.) About 15km east along the lake, Kuesnacht's
Hohle Gasse ( www.hohlegasse.ch/hp/index_engl.html ) offers displays on Switzerland's na-
tional hero William Tell.
