Brasserie des Halles de l'Île
Oh, how the menu lives up to its setting at this unique address on an island in the Rhône. At home in Geneva's old
market hall, Brasserie des Halles de l'Île is an industrial-style venue that cooks up an entertaining cocktail of after-
work aperitifs with music, after-dark DJs and a fabulous seasonal fare of fresh veggies and regional products (look
for the Appellation d'Origine Contrôllée products flagged on the menu) cooked 101 ways. In early summer try the
frappé de petits pois glacé à la menthe (cold pea and mint soup) and spring lamb. Get here early to snag the best
seat in the house: a tiny terrace hanging over the water. Otherwise go for a seat in the courtyard or cavernous main
hall.

Eating
Geneva flaunts ethnic cuisines galore. If it's local and traditional you're after, dip into a
cheese fondue or platter of pan-fried filets de perche (perch fillets). But beware: not all
those cooked up are fresh from the lake. Many come frozen from Eastern Europe, so it's
imperative to pick the right place to sample this simple Lake Geneva speciality.
Pâquis
There's a tasty line-up of more-affordable restaurants on Place de la Navigation. For
Asian-cuisine lovers without a fortune to blow, try a quick-eat joint on Rue de Fribourg,
Rue de Neuchâtel, Rue de Berne or the northern end of Rue des Alpes.

night lights twinkle on sideboards and the Counter's retro decor really comes into its own.
We love the faux sheepskins and crystal in the faintly kitsch Lola Bar lounge! The cuisine
is a tasty mix of sushi, curries and wok-cooked dishes.
