The new layer is automatically named retouch copy.
3. With the retouch copy layer active, use the Quick Selection tool to make a selec-
tion of the model; do not include gaps in the hair where the background is showing
through.
4. Check to see how accurate your selection is by clicking the Quick Mask icon in the
toolbar or pressing Q. If any areas need selecting, paint over them with a black
brush; if areas need to be deselected, paint over them with a white brush.
5. Exit Quick Mask by clicking its icon in the toolbar. Click the Refine Edge button
to go into the Refine Edge properties. Using the techniques you learned in Chapter
1 , improve the selection and bring in all the fine hairs that weren't included by the
Quick Mask tool. In the Output section, choose Selection from the Output To
menu and click OK.
6. Save the selection as cut out and then deselect it. Choose Layer > New Fill Layer
> Solid Color. In the dialog, name it color and click OK ( Figure 6.18 ) .
