trance.
The Sights in a Day
Start as early as you can manage to make your way to the Acropolis and beat
the heat and the crowds. Wander the hilltop first, from the Parthenon ( Click
here ) to the resplendent Caryatids ( Click here ) at the Erechtheion ( Click here ) and
the precious Temple of Athena Nike ( Click here ) . Wander down the Acropolis' southern
slope to take in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus ( Click here ), the Stoa of Eumenes (
Click here ) and the Theatre of Dionysos ( Click here ) .
Grab a bite to eat at the super-scenic and relaxing Acropolis Museum ( Click
here ) cafe-restaurant before taking plenty of time to peruse the thousands of
works in the collection. You can examine everything from tiny coins to magnificent pedi-
mental sculptures, all arrayed beautifully in the modern (air-conditioned!) building. The
movie on the top floor makes a nice break, too.
If there's any time left before dinner, check out neighbourhood shops, including
El.Marneri Galerie ( Click here ) , Greece is For Lovers ( Click here ) and
Kanakis ( Click here ) , or take a short stroll along the Ancient Promenade ( Click here ) ,
listening to the buskers. Plan to dine out at one of the area's fine restaurants, such as Mani
Mani ( Click here ) , Strofi ( Click here ) or Dionysos ( Click here ) and then hit Duende (
Click here ) or Tiki Athens ( Click here ) for a nightcap.
