Plateia Syntagmatos
Start in this square ( Click here ) named for the constitution granted on 3 September
1843. Time your visit to catch the changing of the guard outside the parliament building,
every hour on the hour. To the left of the metro entrance spot a section of the ancient
cemetery and the Peisistratos aqueduct.
Lysikrates Monument
Built in 334 BC, the Lysikrates Monument stands in what was once part of the Street of
Tripods (modern Tripodon), where winners of ancient dramatic and choral contests dedic-
ated their tripod trophies to Dionysos. Reliefs depict the battle between Dionysos and the
Tyrrhenian pirates, whom the god had transformed into dolphins.
