tion hasn't dimmed the meat-loving credentials of this good-value vegetarian-free zone.
The signature is the bulging, Texas-style pulled-pork sandwiches (beef brisket and
smoked-chicken variations are also offered). Consider perking up your order with a
side of succulent cornbread or a pail of house-made iced tea. Expect lunchtime queues.
This is the kind of place where you can fill up for an entire day at one meal. Wash
your grub down with some locally made Phillips beer.

Victoria's best weekend brunch spot, this wood-floored, high-ceilinged heritage
room is lined with funky memorabilia and the menu is a cut above standard diner fare.
For dinner, you'll get started with a basket of addictive house-made bread, but save
room for heaping pasta or pierogy. Don't leave without trying a thick slab of pie from
the case at the front.
Good value and friendly service have made John's Place a local legend for years.

There's a strong vegetarian focus here, but you'll also
find some options for visiting carnivores. The funky laid-back interior has a diner-
esque feel, and if you snag a sun-dappled table you'll likely bask in the cozy ambience
way longer than you intended. Also a good spot to drop into for a midafternoon pie and
java break if you're exploring downtown on foot.
ReBar has also produced its own cookbook so, if you like what you eat, you can pre-
tend you're still here when you get back home (especially if you've also mastered that
subtle Canadian accent).
