KITSILANO BEACH BEACH

(cnr Cornwall Ave & Arbutus St; 22) Facing English Bay, Kits Beach is one of Van-
couver's favorite summertime hangouts. The wide, sandy expanse attracts buff Frisbee
tossers and giggling volleyball players, and those who just like to preen while catching
the rays. The ocean is fine for a dip, though serious swimmers should consider the
heated Kitsilano Pool, one of the world's largest outdoor saltwater pools.
Perch on a log on a summer afternoon and catch the breathtaking view here. One of
Vancouver's signature panoramas, you'll be treated to shimmering seafront backed by
the twinkling glass towers of downtown and the North Shore mountains beyond. It's
one of those vistas that will have your considering your emigration options.

(MOV; www.museumofvancouver.ca ; 1100 Chestnut St; adult/child $12/8; 10am-5pm Fri-Wed,
10am-8pm Thu; ; 22) The recently rebranded MOV has upped its game with cool
temporary exhibitions and regular late-opening parties for adults. It hasn't changed
everything, though. There are still colorful displays on local 1950s pop culture and
1960s hippie counterculture - a reminder that Kits was once the grass-smoking center
of Vancouver's flower-power movement.
There's plenty of hands-on stuff for the history-minded kids here, including weekend
scavenger hunts and fun workshops. The museum is hoping to relocate to a downtown
site in future years, so check the website for progress reports.
