SHOPPING
Colonizing the area's evocative old brick warehouses, the chichi Yaletown
shopping scene has some interesting indie stores and designer
boutiques. But for arts and crafts fans, it has to be Granville Island. It's
teeming with studios where artisans throw clay, blow glass and silver-
smith jewelry. A tempting array of shopping nooks are housed in former
industrial buildings. Head to the Net Loft, Railspur Alley or Granville Is-
land Public Market if you're lacking direction, but make sure you explore
as much as possible and duck down the back alleys to see artists at work
in their studios. Buskers also hang out here on summer afternoons, mak-
ing this Vancouver's most convivial shopping area.
