BIN 941 TAPAS $$

( www.bin941.com ; 941 Davie St; plates $10-19; 5pm-midnight Sun-Thu, to 2am Fri & Sat; 6)
A hopping, intimate spot that's packed almost every night, cave-like Bin 941 kicked off
Vancouver's small-plates fever a few years back, and they haven't lost their touch. The
inventive menu, based on local and seasonal ingredients, often includes international -
influenced dishes such as short ribs, seared scallops and steamed fresh mussels (go for
the coconut-milk broth).
It's one of the best spots in town for late-night nibbles and a few glasses of wine with
chatty friends - which will quickly include the people squeezed next to you at the small
adjoining table. Reservations not accepted.
ZERO ONE SUSHI JAPANESE $$
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
(559 W Pender St; mains $5-16; 11am-8pm Mon-Thu, to 9pm Fri; Granville) Fueling city-
center office workers for years (which is why it's closed on weekends), this unassuming
hole-in-the-wall staple serves some of the freshest, no-nonsense sushi in the downtown
core. Prices are very reasonable ( nigiri rolls cost from $1 to $3, for example) and
there's usually a special or two to entice you to try something other than your regular
California rolls.
There's minimal seating, so consider taking your package to the waterfront and locat-
ing an alfresco perch with a view around Canada Pl, a 10-minute walk away.
LA BODEGA SPANISH $$

( www.labodegavancouver.com ; 1277 Howe St; tapas $3-13; 4:30pm-midnight Mon-Fri, 5pm-
midnight Sat, to 11pm Sun; 10) It's all about the tasting plates at this rustic, checked-
tablecloth tapas bar, arguably Vancouver's most authentic Spanish restaurant. Pull up a
chair, order a jug of sangria and decide on a few shareable treats from the extensive
menu - if you're feeling spicy, the chorizo sausage hits the spot and the Spanish meat-
balls are justifiably popular.
There's often a great atmosphere here - helped by the friendly servers - so don't be
surprised if you find yourself staying for more than a few hours...and an extra jug of
sangria.
