Taptic Engine
Beneath the surface of Apple Watch is the Taptic Engine, a linear actuator that provides
feedback by tapping you on the wrist. The Taptic Engine doesn't feel like your typical
mobile phone vibration, but rather a real, physical tap of a finger on your skin. Every time
you receive a notification or alert you'll feel a tap. The Taptic Engine also kicks in when
you perform a function such as turning the Digital Crown on the side of Apple Watch.
When combined with audio cues from the waterproof speaker inside Apple Watch, the
Taptic Engine creates a discreet and sophisticated experience that engages multiple senses.
You can also use the Taptic Engine to communicate with other Apple Watch wearers, by
sending them a gentle tap, pattern of taps or even your own heartbeat.
