Lighting
The workplace should be provided with uniform lighting that gives an ad-
equate level of illumination. Good lighting will help you to produce good work.
I have read elsewhere that fluorescent lights can make the machine appear
static due to the stroboscopic effect of the light on the machine's rotation. I
have never had this happen to me but unless you are deaf, you will be able to
hear if the machine is running as well as see it running so I would not worry
about this problem occurring.
Fig. 3.6. Low-voltage machine lights are easily fitted and make it easier to see the
work. Caution: lights do get hot in use; try not to touch them when switched on and
do not let soluble materials come in contact with hot surfaces, especially the glass
bulb protectors.
MIND YOUR SPEED
The milling machine must be set to operate at the speeds and feeds recom-
mended for the specific metal being milled. If the cutter rotates too slowly/fast
or the feed is too slow/fast, broken cutters and/or accidents are likely to occur.
