In-Depth Information
Fig. 7.10. This pair of 1 2 3 blocks will find lots of uses on the milling machine.
1 2 3 blocks
1 2 3 blocks are so called because they usually have a ratio of 1, 2 and 3. The
longest length could be 3in, the width 2in and the thickness 1in: hence 1 2 3.
Larger 1 2 3 blocks are available called 2 4 6 blocks, which are twice the size
of 1 2 3 blocks. The blocks are precision ground on all six sides and usually
have a selection of through holes and tapped holes so they can be bolted to-
gether. They are very useful when used for workholding.
ANGULAR MACHINING
Angle plates
Two angle plates bolted together can be very useful in locating components,
especially strip that needs to be drilled in the ends. You bolt the two angle
plates together so their faces are offset, which leaves a step to drop the com-
ponent into. You can clamp two angle plates to the table with a component
clamped between - perhaps a casting, to have its face machined. You could
also bolt a block of metal on an angle to an angle plate to create an angle
machining fixture.
