Gear cutters
Gear cutters are for cutting the teeth on gear wheels. A normal set of gear
cutters contains eight different profiles and are numbered 1 to 8.
Cutter No.1 cuts gears of 135 tooth or more, including racks.
Cutter No.2 cuts 55-134 teeth.
Cutter No.3 cuts 35-54 teeth.
Cutter No.4 cuts 26-34 teeth.
Cutter No.5 cuts 21-25 teeth.
Cutter No.6 cuts 17-20 teeth.
Cutter No.7 cuts 14-16 teeth.
Cutter No.8 cuts 12 and 13 teeth.
Gear cutters are normally of involute form, and Imperial cutters are desig-
nated by the diametral pitch (DP) or the metric equivalent which is the mod-
ule.
