Chipping saws
Chipping saws are like slitting saws but they have side cutting teeth, although
they are still designed to cut on the diameter. While they should not be used
to cut on their sides, the side teeth will help to remove the swarf so they are
much less liable to clog up and seize.
Side and face milling cutters
These cutters are like chipping saws but are normally wider and stronger.
They can cut on the sides as well as the diameter and would most often be
used to cut a wide slot right through a piece of metal, this often being done in
more than one pass to make a slot of a specific width. As they are quite thick,
they are unlikely to deflect.
