EFSA.Forthispurpose,aprogramforthereevaluationoffoodadditivesthatwerealreadypermit-
tedintheEUbefore20January2009hasbeensetupunderRegulation(EU)No.257/2010.This
regulationalsoforeseesthatfoodadditivesarereevaluatedwhenevernecessaryinlightofchanging
conditionsofuseandnewscientiicinformation.Inaccordancewiththislegislation,EFSAhasto
reevaluatethesweetenersby31December2020.
14.9 CONCLUDING reMarKS
Allsweetenerspermittedforuseinfoodshavebeensubjectedtoriskassessment.Theuseof
thesweeteners,authorizedasfoodadditivesinfoodproducts,hasbeenregulatedonthebasisof
theADI.Thisregulationhasensuredthattheamountspermittedinfoodsofagivenfoodadditive
would not result in the daily consumption of amounts exceeding the ADI. The consumption of
sweetenersinquantitieswithintheADIdoesnotconstituteahealthhazardtoconsumers.
