May-Oct) This place offers internet access and a terrific guide to the tree sculptures around
town. The trees were carved after the region was affected by Dutch elm disease more
than 30 years ago.

Economy to Five Islands
Hwy 2 hugs the shore of the Minas Basin, the northeast arm of the Bay of Fundy, and
Economy is the first sizable community that you'll arrive at. There's great hiking and
several interesting sites around Economy.
Sights & Activities
Cobequid Interpretation
Centre MUSEUM, HIKING
( 902-647-2600; 3248 Hwy 2, near River Phillip Rd; by donation; 9am-4:30pm Jun-Sep) Stop
here for good exhibits on the area's ecology and history. Climb a WWII observation
tower for a bird's-eye view of the surrounding area and pick up hiking information from
the staff.
The nearby Thomas Cove Coastal Trail is actually two 3.5km loops with great views
across the Minas Basin and the Cobequid Mountains. They begin down Economy Point
Rd, 500m east of the Cobequid Interpretation Centre. Follow the signs to a parking area.
Economy Falls HIKING
The most challenging hikes in the area are around Economy Falls. The Devil's Bend
Trail begins 7km up River Phillip Rd toward the Cobequid Mountains. Turn right and
park; the 6.5km (one-way) trail follows the river to the falls.
The Kenomee Canyon Trail begins further up River Phillip Rd, at the top of the falls.
A 20km loop, it takes you up the river to its headwaters in a protected wilderness area.
