Several streams have to be forded. There are designated campsites, making this a good
two-day adventurous trek.
Five Islands Provincial Park HIKING
( 902-254-2980; http://parks.gov.ns.ca ) Just 7km west of Economy, there are several hikes
in Five Islands Provincial Park. The 4.5km Red Head Trail is well developed, with
lookouts, benches and great views.
Sleeping & Eating
Several takeaway stands selling fried clams pop up along the highway near Five Islands
Provincial Park in the summer.

hostel and the large homey cafe out front. The owner also owns one of the five islands
(of the eponymous town) and holds a running race each year from the mainland to the is-
land when the tide goes out high enough - the race and the hostel are named after Moses
and his parting of the Red Sea.

and face the Minas Basin. In summer, there's a hot tub near the pool; in winter - or on a

friendly, modern bungalow has great views. Janet, one of the owners, will have you
down on the beach for a clam boil in no time.
That Dutchman's Farm CAFE $

11am-5pm Jul & Aug) The yummy cafe here offers sandwiches, soups and plates of the ec-
centric farmer's own Gouda. You can tour the farm for a small fee.
