The cheapest accommodations are chains on the outskirts of town. A number of high-
quality restaurants dot the Square.

room B&B has an antebellum-style exterior and modern interior (think: tempurpedic
beds and flatscreens). Room rates include full Southern breakfasts to order. It's an easy
walk from shops and restaurants, and the inn keepers will make you feel like family.
Inn at Ole Miss HOTEL$$$
( 662-234-2331; www.theinnatolemiss.com ; 120 Alumni Dr; r from $129; ) Unless
it's a football weekend, in which case, you'd be wise to book well ahead, you can usually
find a nice room at this 180-room hotel and conference center right on the Ole Miss
Grove. Although less personal than the local inns, it's comfortable, well-located and
walkable to downtown.
Bottletree Bakery BAKERY$
( www.bottletreebakery.net ; 923 Van Buren; pastries $3-4, mains $6-9; 7am-4pm Tue-Fri,
9am-4pm Sat, to 2pm Sun; ) This place trades in exquisite pastries including saucer-sized
cinnamon rolls, a brioche of the day, shortbread streusel, mammoth chocolate croissants,
and a nice collection of sandwiches and salads.
Snackbar NEW AMERICAN$$$
( 662-236-6363; www.citygroceryonline.com ; 721 N Lamar Blvd; small plates $6-12, mains $11-26;
4pm-midnight Mon-Sat) A fabulous find in an otherwise nondescript mini-mall. It spe-
cializes in craftsman cocktails, and are also known for its exquisite raw bar (oysters, blue
crab, Gulf shrimp) and small plates that wander from oysters and grits to a kale Caesar.
The burger is legendary. All served in rather dark and groovy hardwood environs.
Taylor Grocery SEAFOOD$$$
( www.taylorgrocery.com ; 4 County Rd 338A; dishes $9-15; 5-10pm Thu-Sat, to 9pm Sun) Be
prepared to wait - and to tailgate in the parking lot - at this splendidly rusticated catfish
haunt. Get yours fried or grilled, and bring a marker to sign your name on the wall. The
joint is about 7 miles from downtown Oxford, south on Old Taylor Rd.
