Big Four Bridge WALKING, CYCLING
(East River Rd) Town's latest attraction, is an old bridge fixed up new. Built between 1888
and 1895, the Big Four Bridge, which spans the Ohio River and reaches the Indiana
shores, had been closed to vehicular traffic since 1969 and was reopened in 2013 as a
pedestrian and cycling path, with excellent city and river views throughout.
Dogs are allowed. Skates and skateboards are not. Ample parking.
THE HAUNTED HOSPITAL
Towering over Louisville like a mad king's castle, the abandoned Waverly Hills
Sanatorium once housed victims of an early 20th-century tuberculosis epidemic.
When patients died, workers dumped their bodies down a chute into the base-
ment. No wonder the place is said to be one of America's most haunted buildings.
