Drinking & Entertainment
Downtown Asheville has a range of bars and cafes, from frat-boy beer halls to hookah-n-
sprout hippie holes-in-the-wall. West Asheville has a more laid-back townie vibe. For
more about the region's 20-plus microbreweries and beer pubs, visit www.ashevilleale-
trail.com .
Wicked Weed MICROBREWERY
( www.wickedweedbrewing.com ; 91 Biltmore Ave) Henry VIII called hops 'a wicked and perni-
cious weed' that ruined the taste of beer. His subjects kept quaffing it anyway - just like
the hordes at this new microbrewery, which overflows with hoppy brews. In a former gas
station with a wide front patio, it's a big and breezy spot to chill.
Thirsty Monk BREW PUB

Sun) Try a variety of North Carolina craft beers and plenty of Belgian ales at this scruffy
but lovable beer bar.
Jack of the Wood PUB
( www.jackofthewood.com ; 95 Patton Ave) This Celtic pub is a good place to bond with local
20- and 30-somethings over a bottle of organic ale.
