earned many admirers for its warm welcome. Rooms are comfortably set and guests can
enjoy the wide front porch, cozy parlor with fireplace, and excellent cooked breakfasts -
plus wine and cheese in the evenings.

Jefferson is Richmond's grandest hotel and one of the finest in America. The vision of
tobacco tycoon and Confederate major Lewis Ginter, the beaux-arts-style hotel was com-
pleted in 1895. Today it offers luxurious rooms, top-notch service and one of Richmond's
finest restaurants. According to rumor, the magnificent grand staircase in the lobby
served as the model for the famed stairs in Gone with the Wind .
Eating
You'll find dozens of restaurants along the cobbled streets of Shockoe Slip and Shockoe
Bottom. Further west in Carytown (W Cary St between S Blvd and N Thompson St),
you'll find even more dining options.
17th Street Farmers Market MARKET$

out this bustling market, which runs from early May through October. On Sundays, the
market sells antiques.
