$25/free; 10am-5:30pm Sun-Thu, to 9pm Fri & Sat; ; 4/5/6 to 86th St) With more than
five million visitors a year, the Met is New York's most popular single-site tourist attrac-
tion, with one of the richest coffers in the arts world. The Met is a self-contained cultural
city-state, with two million individual objects in its collection and an annual budget of
over $120 million; the revamped American galleries include everything from colonial
portraiture to Hudson River School masterpieces. Other highlight rooms include ancient
Egyptian Art, Arms and Armor, Modern Art, Greek and Roman Art, European Paintings
and the gorgeous rooftop, which offers bar service and spectacular views throughout the
summer. Note that the suggested donation (which is, truly, a suggestion ) includes same-
day admission to the Cloisters.
