In-Depth Information
Often, additions to a log house have a spe-
cific purpose. Most are post and beam or
frame. Below, the rear addition serves as
the kitchen/dining area for one house. The
stone and stucco end of our house (left)
has a log addition that serves as my wife's
quilting room (also used as a guest room),
a large bathroom, a storage attic, and the
laundry room.
The western addition to our house was built by adding this 40-foot
timber-frame house. The width of this house matched the log portion
of the original log house. The 18-foot joist span is braced with a cen-
tral oak sleeper, allowing smaller and less expensive floor joists. The
exterior of this section was covered in stucco with stone at the end
to balance with the stone at the eastern end of the house.
