The Sights in a Day
Pre-empt the crowds by arriving at Yuyuan Gardens ( Click here ) as it opens
at 8.30am. After visiting the gardens, exit into Yuyuan Bazaar and consider a
cup of tea at the Huxinting Teahouse or a short wander amid the souvenir shops and end-
less bustle of the market area. From here, find Chenxiangge Nunnery and take a walking
tour ( Click here ) of the nearby temples, alleyways and antique markets - don't forget to
break for lunch at Din Tai Fung ( Click here ) or Songyuelou ( Click here ) .
Finish the tour with a browse through the Shiliupu Fabric Market ( Click here
), which specialises in tailor-made clothing. From here, you can catch a taxi over
to the Confucius Temple ( Click here ) and explore its surrounding alleyways, which are
much less touristy than the area around the Yuyuan Bazaar. Continue on to the Flower,
Bird, Fish & Insect Market ( Click here ) and then the Dongtai Road Antique Market (
Click here ) for a final round of souvenir shopping.
The outdoor terrace at Fat Olive ( Click here ) is a good pick for pre- or post-
dinner drinks.
