In-Depth Information
Old Town
Shanghai's Old Town, known to locals as Nan Shi (Southern City), is an in-
triguing area of old-fashioned textures, tatty charm and musty temples, and is a
favourite stop for visitors. The circular layout still reflects the footprint of the
former city walls, flung up in the 16th century to defend against marauding
Japanese pirates.
