A beautifully restored complex of four Ashkenazic synagogues from the 17th and 18th
centuries reveals the history of Jews in the Netherlands. It vividly captures the vibrant
Jewish community snuffed out by WWII. Pick up the free, English-language audio tour

This was the largest synagogue in Europe when it was completed in 1675, and it's still in
use today. The interior features massive pillars and some two dozen brass candelabra.
Outside (near the entrance), take the stairs underground to the 'treasure chambres' to see
16th-century manuscripts and gold-threaded tapestries. Admission tickets also provide
