Café Berkhout
BROWN CAFE
Once a derelict spot, this beautifully refurbished brown cafe - with its dark wood, mirrored
and chandelier-rich splendour, and shabby elegance - is a natural post-Heineken Experien-
ce winddown spot. No matter how much beer you've swilled at the brewery, you can't miss
Berkhout: it's right across the street.

Café Sarphaat
Grab an outdoor table along the Sarphatipark, tuck into a
croque monsieur
(grilled ham-
and-cheese sandwich) and a frothy beer, and see if you don't feel like a local. This is one of
the neighbourhood's most genial spots, with a lovely old bar that makes sipping a
jenever
(Dutch gin) in broad daylight seem like a good idea.

Café de Groene Vlinder
BROWN CAFE
Like Chocolate Bar down the block (see 15 , B2), the 'Green Butterfly' strikes just the
right balance between hip and
gezellig
(cosy). This makes it the perfect spot to go for a
kof-
fie verkeerd
(coffee with lots of milk) in the warm wood interior before meeting up for a
biertje
(glass of beer) on the hopping patio.
